The City Council changed an existing Ordinance this week, which had not specifically included cell phone companies. The old Ordinance only mentioned that landline phone companies.
"This is a result of a company (mobile phone) by calling the Secretariat of the city, saying they were since it won't pay the occupation tax because our Ordinance did not say should pay wireless companies," explained York City Manager Jack Vavra. "Took a look at what has been held across the State and saw that other cities have been updating their Ordinances to include a wireless business occupation tax".

"This is especially important because many people only uses mobile phones now," said Councillor Brian Leggett.
"Yes, the administrators of the city looked and saw that is now almost 2 to 1, with more people with wireless landlines," Vavra, said.
